Contra Dance at Bourne UMC – March 22, 2014 at 8:00pm

Marcie Van Cleave will call our Bourne Contra dance on Saturday, March 22. Executive Director of the Folk Arts Center and of the Boston Harbor Fiddle School, Marcie has taught and led dances throughout New England since the mid-1980s. A noted musician once remarked that with her high energy and good-natured humor, Marcie “could get the stones in a wall to dance!” Dan Lanier and The French Connection, self-described as a “Celtic Contra Square Dance Band,” will perform traditional Celtic tunes with a French accent. Sample their music by this link: http://dexterfiddles.com/french_connection.html. No experience necessary, but a joyful experience to be had. Note: To avoid conflict with the New England Folk Festival, there will be no Bourne Contra dance in April....

Contra Dance – February 22, 2014 – Bourne UMC

Our February 22nd contra dance, 8:00pm at Bourne UMC, features the joyful Celtic music of celebrated musicians pianist Jacqueline Schwab and fiddler Amy Larkin. Jacqueline, who tours in concert and conducts workshops internationally, has collaborated, composed, and played for the soundtracks of more than 10 PBS specials. Amy Larkin, an accomplished Celtic fiddler, engages dancers with spirited grooving that wonderfully synergizes with Jacqueline’s improvisational piano. Together, Jacqueline and Amy provide a musical performance that will engage you — even if you don’t dance. Favored John Alden, who managed the Sandwich contra dance for 25 years, who called our Bourne community dance two years ago, and who also plays bass for many local musical events, will call the dances. No experience necessary, but a joyful experience to be had....
