The Bourne UMC will be joining in worship again outdoors on the church lawn, Sunday, August 16th at 11 am. As with every reopening these days, there are a few guidelines. As joyous as it will be to see each other again, it will be necessary for everyone to wear a mask, and while waving at each other is encouraged, everyone must limit social interaction by maintaining social distancing at all time, before, during, and after the service. It is requested that you bring your own chair. There will two greeters on the lawn at the edge of the parking lot. After you say hello to one of them, they will direct you to an usher who will show you where to put your chair. Everyone is encouraged to come early (at least 15 minutes) so there is time to be seated before the beginning of the service. If there is a line by the greeter, please maintain a distance of six feet from the person in front of you. The usher will hand you the bulletin. At the end of the service wait to leave until an usher has directed you to do so. Please wave to everyone as you leave but as hard as it will be, do not stop to chat with each other or the Pastor. We can best show our loving care for each other by following these guidelines. If you are ill, please remain home and watch our service online. If you become ill after having attended a service, it is asked that you call the church office to let someone know. If it is raining, please attend the online service.Remember, even though we are apart God is...

THANKSGIVING UPDATE

Posted by on Nov 21, 2017 in Upcoming Events | 0 comments

Dear Friends, A few brief updates regarding Thanksgiving. Full Thanksgiving Dinner will be available this Thursday at John Wesley United Methodist in Falmouth, served by the Falmouth Service Center, from 12 to 4. All welcome. (Need not be Falmouth residents.) As we get inquiries and if people show up on Thursday we will let people know this option exists. And a few of us will be gathering at Cataumet UMC for potluck from noon till roughly 2 pm. Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy, pie and cake and whatever you might choose to bring if you should choose to come will be available… Feel free to bring a dish and join us at noon. Even if you can only come for half an hour or an hour, please come if you can share in this event. Which continues to grow in significance the more I ponder… We have just this week learned that technically potluck suppers are against the law (and have been, we’re told, for about thirty years). Though till now no one has tried to enforce this that we know of. Right. Hot food brought from home is against state food code regulations, unless kept heated to mandatory minimum heat at all times. So… We will be eating together in the church as a revolutionary act. Author Bill McKibben calls potluck supper “the Methodist form of communion.” And speaking for myself, I’m willing to go to jail, like Arlo Guthrie of old, on Thanksgiving Day — for the sake of our inalienable right to do church potluck meals together. So… Do pray for us, and join us if you feel so led. As always — All Are Welcome. Grace and peace, Pastor...

Posted by on Nov 17, 2017 in Upcoming Events | 0 comments

Dear friends, Sorry to bring this news, but our annual Thanksgiving Dinner at Cataumet is postponed till next year, due to the Fire Department finding our kitchen not up to commercial code. Please pray for all who will be alone or hungry this Thanksgiving. And that hospitality will become available elsewhere. And that we will be open and serving again before long. Grace and peace, Pastor Tim
